The pharmacy's dispensing cost is nearly the same for 30 or 90 days, and plans would rather you stay on the medication than lapse — adherence is cheaper for them too.

Do not put a brand-new medication on 90-day supply. If the dose changes or the drug does not agree with you, you are holding three months of something you cannot use and generally cannot return. Stabilize on 30-day fills first, then switch.
